Translation of Pouqueville: My first excursion was to Mount Bôra. I only had two armed men as an escort, with whom I ventured by taking the road to Monastir or Bitolia, capital of Romelia or Cisaxian Macedonia, when I left the village of Longa, located at the top of Mount Sarakina . I could no longer converse with the peasants we met, who are, for the most part, Bulgarians; and this circumstance made me almost want, from the start, to give up my enterprise. But the first step was taken, my reasons could have been interpreted quite differently; and pride, which sometimes makes us do a lot of stupid things, had on this occasion a happy success.
