Deutsch: Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel (1784–1846) war einer der bekanntesten deutschen Wissenschaftler des 19. Jahrhunderts. Er wirkte als Astronom, Mathematiker und Geodät, erwarb sich aber das Basiswissen als Autodidakt.
English: Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel (1784–1846) was a German mathematician, astronomer, and systematizer of the Bessel functions.
