Text from the Chronicle of John Skylitzes: "... When the thrice-blessed Methodius depared the life after occupying the Constantinopolitan throne for four breif years, Ignatios was enthroned as patriarch. He was the grandson of the emperor Nikephoros [I] on his mother's side and the son of the emperor Michael [I] who fell from power. After he fell from power he was castrated and thus excluded from the succession; he became a monk, then hegoumenos of the monastery of Satyros. ..." (Translated by John Wortley, in: John Skylitzes: A Synopsis of Byzantine History, 811-1057: Translation and Notes, p. 106)

Text aus der Chronik von Johannes Skylitzes: "... als der dreimalselige Methodios aus dem Leben schied, nachdem es ihm nur vier Jahre vergönnt war, vom Patriarchenstuhl in Konstantinopel aus die Kirche zu lenken, folgte ihm Ignatios nach; bei ihm handelte es sich um den Tochtersohn des Kaisers Nikephoros, um den Sohn Michaels, der vom Kaiserthron vertrieben worden war. Nach dem Verlust der Kaisernachfolge war er auch noch verschnitten; darauf wurde er Mönch, brachte es bis zum Abt des Klosters des Satyros und wurde schließlich auf den Patriarchenthron berufen. ..."
